Boston FAQs

Answers to common TV mounting questions in Boston apartments, high-rises, condos, and homes.

How do I know what type of walls I have?

In Boston, wall type often depends on the building. High-rise buildings in areas like Seaport, Back Bay, and Assembly Square in Somerville typically use metal studs, especially in buildings over four stories. Traditional homes and smaller buildings often use wood studs with drywall or plaster lath.

What if I have metal studs?

Standard screws that come with most TV mounts usually will not properly secure into metal studs. Using the wrong hardware can cause the mount to fail over time. We use specialty anchors and drill bits designed specifically for metal framing. Our process ensures a secure installation — and we have never lost a TV in a metal stud building.

Do I need brick drilling above my fireplace?

In many Boston homes, even if you see brick at the fireplace, the painted wall above it is typically drywall or plaster over wood or metal studs. In those cases, brick drilling is not required and the installation is considered standard. We evaluate the surface before drilling to ensure the correct method is used.

What if my wall has tile, brick, marble, or granite?

We have experience drilling into tile, brick, marble, granite, and other masonry materials. When booking your job, upload a clear photo of the wall so we can prepare the proper tools and anchors ahead of time.

I don’t have a cable outlet where I want the TV. What should I do?

If you prefer not to run a visible cable across the room, many providers now offer wireless cable boxes that connect directly to your modem. With a wireless box, you can place the TV almost anywhere in the room without a physical cable line.

There’s no outlet above my fireplace. What are my options?

If you're renting, the least intrusive option is a neatly routed white extension cord with discreet cord covers that match the wall. For a permanent solution, an electrician can install an outlet if power is available nearby. Electrical work is priced separately and handled by a licensed professional.
